DeAnna Tibbs, a friend of founder Jen Angel, staged and photographed the scene, and the Angel Cakes team baked the cakes and cupcakes to represent their signature flavors. Pastel wood panels, disco balls, candy jars, citrus slices, and striped straws fill every corner with color. In March 2016 she opened a retail shop at 745 5th Street in Oakland, the candy pink Victorian that was home for 36 years to TJ's Gingerbread House, a Creole restaurant founded by Louisiana native TJ Robinson. In 2025 the co-op launched a community-funded program that sponsors cakes and cupcakes, at no cost, for people experiencing homelessness or financial hardship.

Angel Cakes serves cakes, cupcakes, and small desserts made with ethically sourced ingredients, including allergy-friendly options.
