About the Artist: Larry Hausen

Larry Hausen is an Oakland-born and Alameda-raised illustrator and graphic designer. After graduating from California College of the Arts, he opened Hausen Design at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley. Later, he joined the Golden State Warriors to develop their Creative Services Department, where he designed their iconic logo in the late '90s and contributed to the renovation of the Oakland Arena, including the court, uniforms, and Downtown Practice facility.

Now operating as RuffHaus Design Studio, Larry specializes in award-winning posters for festivals, fairs, and special events throughout California, including the master poster design for the Mountain Mandarin Festival for 17 years. He lives in Cool, California, where he works from his home studio.

Larry’s love for historic hometown theaters, like the Alameda Theatre, is deeply personal. As a child, he and his brothers would walk the mile and a half to the theater, sparking his lifelong passion for vintage California theaters and inspiring his impressive series of the same name. Larry’s other illustrative themes explore California travel, surf culture, and Highway 49. He can be found through his website and Instagram.
