About the Artist: Chris Granillo

Chris Granillo is a Mexican American printmaker and painter based in the East Bay. His practice includes murals, canvas paintings, and relief prints, with work featured in both public spaces and galleries.

Raised in the desert, Granillo’s bold palettes and intricate textures explore the contrasts of light and shadow, the interplay of urban and wild environments, and the mythologies that tie culture and nature together.

His influences include Mesoamerican folklore, native flora and fauna, and the storytelling traditions passed through generations. His work invites viewers to reconsider familiar themes through new, symbolic lenses.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,

Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,

As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.

"Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door—

Only this and nothing more."

—Edgar Allan Poe
